LTDS Update December 9-15th 2018

LTDS team members spend time this week preparing for shutting down Acorn and SFX servers.  The team also had several conversations about internal workflows and ways to improve the services we offer.

 

  • Alma/Primo (Jamen, Nancy, Tao)
    • Special collection item request and Alma booking form
    • Continued work with Alma accounts and user records
    • Loading records into Alma
    • Prepared for Acorn and SFX final shutdown on Dec. 14th.
  • Digital Collections (Nathan, Judy, Scott, Nancy)
    • Continued to utilize new ingestion method and develop processes
    • Assisting students submitting ETDs
    • Taking care of several scanning requests
  • Web/Web applications (Jodie, Scott, Matt)
    • Completed rewrite of TVNews search
    • Worked on setting up/designing 2 wordpress sites
    • Create interface for Music recital requests

    • Completed inventory of laptops
    • cleaned up 401 before our students leave for the holidays
    • Met with Joseph in the Fine Arts Gallery to discuss technology needs
    • Consultation with faculty member concerning HathiTrust Data capsules

LTDS Dec 2nd -8th 2018

Another busy week as LTDS continued to work on various projects and attempt to finish up a few items before the holidays.

    • Continued working on user account processes
    • Creating several reports in preparation of shutting down Acorn permanently on Friday.
    • Various discussions around Alma request forms
    • Autoloading of leisure reading materials
  • Desktop/Application support (Judy, Matt, Nancy)
    • Preparing Macs for roll-out and correct a few minor issues.
    • Updating inventory
  • Digital Collections (Nathan, Judy, Scott)
    • Scanning several requests
    • Completing the Nashville Voter
    • Continued to complete ingestion of the the last of ESSSS project and working towards migrating the system to different systems.
    • Reviewing Photo archive metadata

    • ETANA export and cleanup
    • Completed first pass at┬á changing the TVNews search method on the TVNews website.

LTDS November 25 – Dec 1st 2018

LTDS returned from the holidays and resumed work on various projects as well as reviewing inform requests.  Please let me know if you have any questions about open INFORM requests.

    • Continued work on Alma accounts and various issues related to the data feeds and external users (friends, alumni, etc.)
    • Discussions concerning normalization rules for external resources

    • Replaced older hardware
    • Continued work on deploying new macbooks and creating the new image.

    • Working to add additional local collections

    • Started reorganizing scanned assets in order to allow streamlined ingestion of materials

Inability to Access Oracle Due to a Locked Account

We have had reports of users receiving a second login popup window upon attempting to login to Oracle/SkyVU.

Please note that users should only enter their VUnetID and ePassword for Oracle login through the Vanderbilt Single Sign-On screen. 
If you see a pop-up window or prompt for VUnetID on a screen other than the Single Sign-On page, DO NOT enter your VUnetID and ePassword there or this can lock your account. Please clear your browser history, close and reopen your browser, and then reattempt login from the SkyVU webpage – the link there is: https://oraclecloud.vanderbilt.edu/┬á and bookmark this link for future use.
If you enter your VUnetID and ePassword on the wrong page, please email skyvu@vanderbilt.edu to have your account unlocked.

LTDS Nov. 4th – 10th 2018

LTDS continues to work towards reducing turn-around time for resolving issues.  Although each person in LTDS has areas that they are the go to person for,  we strive to have several people able to address most general issues.  This is one of the main reason we utilize INFORM, so that more staff members can see and address issues.

Alma: Notifications Widget

In order to keep up with important information related directly with Alma, it is vital you have the “Notifications” widget installed on your Alma dashboard. To do this, log into Alma. Then, click on the + sign over to the right of your name:

It will bring up a new window, asking you which widgets you would like to install:

Click the box next to “Notifications”:

Then click the “x” in the top right corner of the “Manage Widgets” box to close it:

Then voila! You are receiving notifications:

This box will be used for informing the staff of important updates, enhancements, down time, OCLC issues, anything that might relate to Alma. Please install this widget in order to stay informed. Thank you!
